FAI Unismuh Makassar: 159 Graduates from Six Study Programs

The Faculty of Islamic Studies (FAI) of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar (Unismuh Makassar) held a graduation ceremony for students from six study programs as a marker of the end of the academic process and the conferral of alumni status. The event took place on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the I-GIFT Theater, Iqra Building, Unismuh Makassar Campus.

A total of 159 students participated in the graduation ceremony, which was a mandatory academic stage before the university-level graduation. The graduation ceremony aimed to officially recognize the students' graduation and to confer academic titles according to their respective fields of study.

The graduation ceremony was led by the leadership of the Faculty of Islamic Studies and attended by deans, heads and secretaries of study programs, lecturers, and educational staff at FAI Unismuh Makassar.

The participants in the graduation ceremony came from six study programs. The Education in Islamic Studies (PAI) program graduated 33 students, Arabic Language (PBA) 15 students, and Sharia Economics (HES) contributed the largest number of graduates with 39 students. The Personal Status Studies program graduated 31 students, Islamic Communication and Broadcasting (KPI) 21 students, and Islamic Counseling Education (BKPI) 20 students. The total number of participants in the graduation ceremony was 159 students.

Dr. Amirah Mawardi, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Unismuh Makassar, expressed her gratitude for the success of the students in completing the entire academic process up to the graduation ceremony. According to her, the graduation ceremony is an important moment that officially marks the change of status from students to alumni.

"Today, Saturday, January 31, 2026, I officially confer the degree to all of you and declare that you are entitled to hold the title according to your study program," said Amirah when leading the graduation ceremony.

In her address, Amirah Mawardi emphasized the importance of adab, discipline, and gratitude in every stage of academic activities. She reminded the participants of the graduation ceremony to maintain their behavior and respect for prayer times during the event.

"When the call to prayer is announced, there is no longer any activity of taking photos. This is part of our gratitude to Allah," she said.

In addition, she urged the graduates to immediately inform their parents or guardians about their graduation as a form of respect for the support they have received during their studies. According to her, the academic success is not without the role of family, lecturers, and the entire academic community.

On the same occasion, Amirah also encouraged the graduates to continue contributing to the university. She hoped that the alumni of the Faculty of Islamic Studies would become campus ambassadors by inviting prospective new students to study at Unismuh Makassar.

She targeted that each graduate could recommend at least two prospective new students as a form of gratitude and moral responsibility to the faculty. This step is considered important to maintain the sustainability and competitiveness of FAI in the dynamic of higher education.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ilham Muchtar, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Unismuh Makassar, in his academic message, called the graduates as a generation of enlightenment and agents of change in society. He emphasized that graduates of the Faculty of Islamic Studies are required to implement progressive Islamic values in social life.

According to Ilham, major changes must start from small steps and from oneself. The knowledge and experience gained during studies are the main assets to contribute meaningfully to society.

"Never think of changing society if we are not able to change ourselves first," he said.

In addition to the graduation ceremony, the graduates were scheduled to attend alumni and faculty orientation activities ahead of the university graduation. The graduation of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar is planned to take place in mid-February 2026.

Through this graduation ceremony, the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Unismuh Makassar, reaffirmed its commitment to producing graduates who are honest, competitive, and able to contribute to the community and the nation. The faculty hopes that the alumni will maintain the reputation of the university and practice Islamic values in every role they play in society.
